Most goats have hair rather than dense wool, offering comparatively less protection from cold, wind, and moisture. Therefore, goats may lose body heat faster when exposed in cold conditions outdoors.

Young, sick, poorly nourished, or wet goats face greater cold stress. Farmers should provide dry bedding, adequate nutrition, suitable shelter, and ventilation to maintain comfort and health throughout cold periods.

Cold stress can reduce growth, weaken immunity, and increase respiratory problems. Protecting goats during cold periods improves welfare, productivity, and survival. Prevention remains better than costly treatment for farmers.
