Peste des Petits Ruminants is a highly contagious viral disease threatening sheep productivity and welfare. Early awareness protects flocks and reduces devastating economic losses. Prevention begins today.
The virus spreads through close contact, respiratory droplets, and body secretions. Infected sheep develop fever, mouth sores, diarrhea, coughing, and nasal discharge. Early detection saves flocks.
PPR weakens immunity, allowing secondary infections that worsen illness and increase mortality. Poor management further raises losses, threatening livelihoods and sustainable sheep production. Healthy management reduces losses.
There is no specific antiviral treatment for PPR. Supportive care, balanced nutrition, antibiotics against secondary infections, and strict biosecurity improve recovery outcomes. Good management supports survival.
Vaccination remains the most effective protection against PPR, providing lasting immunity and reducing outbreaks. Healthy flocks strengthen food security, farmer incomes, and rural prosperity. Vaccinate before outbreaks.
