Pasteurellosis, commonly called snuffles, is a contagious bacterial disease threatening rabbit health and productivity. Early recognition prevents severe losses, protects breeding stock, and improves overall welfare. Stay alert.

The disease is caused by Pasteurella multocida and spreads through infected rabbits, contaminated feed, bedding, equipment, and droplets released during sneezing or coughing. Good hygiene limits transmission.

Affected rabbits may sneeze, develop nasal discharge, breathing difficulty, eye and ear infections, abscesses, or reproductive disorders. Untreated infections often become chronic. Early treatment saves lives.

Veterinarians usually prescribe suitable antibiotics alongside supportive care, including proper nutrition, hydration, and comfortable housing. Prompt professional attention increases recovery chances. Never delay seeking expert help.

Prevent pasteurellosis by maintaining clean, ventilated housing, quarantining new or sick rabbits, reducing stress, avoiding overcrowding, and scheduling regular veterinary examinations. Prevention always costs less than treatment.
