Botulism is a non-contagious disease caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum. Birds become affected after consuming contaminated feed, water, maggots, or decaying organic matter. Cleanliness prevents outbreaks.

The toxin attacks the nervous system, causing weakness, drooping wings, inability to stand, and the characteristic limberneck, where affected birds cannot support their necks properly. Early detection saves flocks.

Severe toxin exposure can result in high mortality within affected flocks, reducing productivity and profitability. Immediate removal of suspected birds minimizes contamination and further losses. Quick action matters.

Effective prevention depends on excellent sanitation, proper feed storage, clean drinking water, and prompt disposal of carcasses. Good management remains the strongest defense against botulism. Prevention is always cheaper.
